We are honored that God has chosen to bless First Presbyterian
Church with the opportunity to work alongside parents and caregivers
of children with special needs and to watch them develop spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally.
Joy Kids Room is located on the ground floor of the Atrium, which
is especially designed and equipped for children (infants – 12
years old) who require more personalized attention due to a physical,
mental or emotional need.
Joy Kids Room is open on Sunday mornings
from 8:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. so that families of special needs children have the opportunity to
participate in Sunday School and Worship Services. The room
is also provided during Sunday evening services and certain other
church sponsored events. Please send a diaper or pull-up, a sippy cup, any special food for a snack and a change of clothing.
On Sunday mornings, each child in Joy Kids Room participates in a
time of singing, prayer, a one-on-one Bible lesson and an opportunity
to play as their abilities
permit.
The parents of each child involved in Joy Kids Room are asked to complete
a confidential Placement Questionnaire in which
they will be given the opportunity, among other things, to express
their preferences as to their child’s placement.
(Parents:
Any information you are able to provide us concerning your child – their
diagnosis, their prognosis, their most recent IEP, routines, favorite
activities and toys, irritating sounds, – will assist us in
making a beneficial placement for your child and would be greatly
appreciated.)
The Questionnaire is then submitted to the Children’s
Special Needs Committee.
Each child will then undergo a personal evaluation by the Children’s
Special Needs Committee, after which a placement decision will be
made.
