Let there be light…and Mosquito Nets?

Malaria is one of the most deadly diseases in Africa and kills thousands of children every year.  The World Health Organization states:

52% of all children aged under 5 years in inpatient departments are admitted due to malaria and anaemia and nearly 60% of all hospital deaths in children aged under 5 years are due to malaria and anaemia.

The need is great. Together, we can do our part!

Chuck Duggan is leading a mission trip to Malawi this August. The theme for this trip is “Empower Malawi” and the main work of the team will be to install solar panels on the campus of African Bible College in Lilongwe, Malawi.* People with electrical skills and construction skills will work on this project, as well as doctors and nurses who will work in the campus medical clinic and in villages outside of Lilongwe.

We realize not every member of FPC has the flexibility to participate by going on a mission trip. Our Missions Committee encourages every church member to go on a mission trip to serve when and how they are able. (Learn more about all of our Short Term Missions opportunities, here.) If this is not the year for you to go yourself, consider participating in another way. Support the team we are sending through prayer and donations.

The Empower Malawi team will collect mosquito nets beginning through the month of July. Mosquito nets can be left in the donation boxes located in the brickyard through August 1st. Alternatively, monetary donations can be made out to FPC with “Mosquito Nets” written in the memo line.

Let’s fill a duffel bag full of mosquito nets for Empower Malawi to bless ABC this summer! Email Chuck Duggan with questions, or call our church office at 478.746.3223

*The teams we send work directly with ministries that our church supports through Faith Promise giving. Please prayerfully consider how you may support missions this year through fulfilling your Faith Promise pledge or making a new gift to missions. Faith Promise should not be done flippantly. 2 Corinthians 9 is a great scripture on this subject. We urge you and your family to spend time reading further in God’s word about giving and praying fervently for the Lord’s guidance on how he is calling you to give.
