What is Baptism

"Baptism is a Sacrament, wherein the washing with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, does signify and seal our ingrafting into Christ, and partaking of the benefits of the covenant of grace, and our engagement to be the Lord's".  (WSC 94)

Sign

The baptizing, or sprinkling and washing with water, signifies the cleansing from sin by Christ's blood.

Seal

Baptism is a seal of the Covenant of Grace, or our ingrafting into Christ and our union with Him.

Promise

The Promise is made to believers and their children. The children of believers have an interest in the covenant, and the right to the seal of it, and to the outward privileges of the Church under the Gospel.

Grace

Baptism is a visible symbol of  Covenant Grace. The Covenant Grace of God, made visible through the Church and her members, extends to all who are connected with the church.
